Relatives and Residents Association.

The Relatives & Residents Association (Essex) is a new initiative which aims to provide information and support to older people and their families and friends on matters relating to residential care and the alternatives to it.

For older people, their families and carers decisions regarding residential care can be fraught with anxiety and confusion. There are so many questions - What are the alternatives? Who pay’s for what? What I am entitled to? What kind of home would be suitable? Where can I get help and support after I have moved? Moving into long term care is seldom easy; it can mean a momentous change in lifestyle and relationships. Decisions are often made when the older person is feeling particularly vulnerable and they and their families can feel lost in the mire of confusing information. People struggling with the issue of residential care need access to good independent information, combined with personal advice, guidance and support as appropriate to their own individual circumstances.

The Relatives & Residents Association aim to help achieve the best possible quality of life following admission to a care home and to support care home staff in dealing with matters affecting the needs, rights and quality of life for individual residents.

The Dengie Branch of the Relatives and Residents Association meet regularly at Burnham One Place. For further details contact the Group Co-ordinator Debbie Tanner on 01621 772273 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
