Burnham Carnival has been taking place for over 100 years and most recently boasts an illuminated procession with over 70 floats.
The Carnival Committee are currently in the process of finalising detail for this years Carnival which takes place on Saturday 26th September 2009. The following detail includes information of the activities which took place throughout the day last year, with this years plans anticipated to be following the same theme. Final detail will be confirmed as soon as it becomes available.
10.30am - '999' competition. Light hearted games between teams from the Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade and Lifeboat Services.
10.30am - Burnham Bowls Club. Burnham Carnival Triples competition between Burnham, Southminster and Tillingham Bowls Clubs.
11.30am - Displays by local schools and youth groups including:
- Burnham County Primary School
- St.Marys Cof E Primary School
- Southminster C of E VC Primary School
- Dengie Ti-Chi
- Burnham Air Cadets Drill Display
- PUNCH & JUDY Shows through-out the day by Clock Tower
The Carnival Collecting Box Centre opens at 11am at Curtis O'Boyle in the High Street. Get your collecting boxes early!
Through the day there will be stalls and side-shows in the High Street down to the Victoria Inn car park and along the Quay from the Anchor Pub to the Public Toilets.
The Burnham Baptist Church will be open all day from 10.00am for refreshments with the opportunity to view the floral displays by Burnham Flower Club
Shop windows are decorated through-out the town. Judging will take place from approx 10.30am
2.00pm - Childrens Fancy Dress in the Main Arena.
Through out the afternoon the following displays take place:
- Blue Falcoms Gymnastic Display Team
- Tony de la Fou - An amazingly skilled juggler, with clubs, fire and knives etc performed on a unicycle.
- Berni Bennett - International Tight Rope Act using a variety of devices to thrill the crowd...should keep you suspended and on a high. .
4.45pm - The climax of the afternoon with a display over the river from TEAM GUINOT … Europe’s only professional aerobatic team will perform absolutely incredible single plane stunts and loops with the lady harnessed to the upper wing….They performed their new stunt known as GUINOT GOOSE, where the wing walker leaves the safety of the static harness to sit on the leading edge of the top wing directly above the planes propeller as they soar above Burnham at 100mph.
6:00pm - Judging of the Adult Fancy Dress.
6.15pm - on stage the Carnival Draw.
Following this on stage the Radio Road Show with music and entertainment
7.30pm - Grand Illuminated Procession
